Project Overview | A Lesson in Alternative Energy
School district gains benefits of clean wind power
![]()
At the Sherrard Community Unit School District in Rock Island County, Illinois, students do more than just learn about alternative energy sources. They experience it each time their classroom lights turn on, and they see it being generated by towering turbines that catch the wind. That is because a large portion of their electrical power is now supplied by a wind energy turbine installed by WPCS.
The wind turbine project was initiated by the Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation, an organization established to invest in clean energy development and land preservation efforts. A grant from the Foundation enabled the school district to achieve its goals of reducing electricity costs, while helping the environment. The wind energy turbine powers the school district, as well as the imagination of students who experience, first hand, the potential for new ideas in energy.
